Adding or Replacing Storage Drives: DIVAR IP 30XX, and 704X Appliances
Purpose:
This technical brief is to provide a step by step process for adding new storage drives, or replacing defective storage drives in specified DIVAR Recording Appliances.
Overview:
DIVAR IP Appliance models 30XX and the 704X are not equipped with a RAID controller card. These models perform JBOD via the appliances backplane. After physical drive replacement has been performed, there are several configurations that must be performed for the drive(s) to be accessible to both the operating system and Bosch Video Recording Manager (VRM). These steps are covered in this technical brief.
Step 1 Accessing the Appliance's Desktop:
After physically adding, or replacing defective drives, power on the appliance. After the appliance boots you should be taken to the KIOSK Interface. To exit the KIOSK interface and log into the appliance:
- Select "CTRL + ALT + DELETE" you will be taken to a Windows interface screen
- While holding the "shift key" select "Switch user"
- Select the BVR Admin account
- The default user account and password to access all Divar IP Appliance's desktop is
- USER: BVRAdmin
- Password: WSS4Bosch
Step 2 Adding the Drive to Windows Server:
The first step in adding the new drive to the operating system is to access "Server Manager"
- Select the "Server Manager" icon next to the Windows "Start" tab
After Server manager has opened:
- Select the "Storage" menu
- Select the "Disk Management" sub menu
After a few moments the newly added hard drive should appear as an "Unallocated" device:
- In this example we have added a 1 TB drive as additional storage
- Right Click on the "Unallocated" drive and select the "New Simple Volume" menu option
- The "New Simple Volume Wizard" should open"
- Select the "Next" button on the "Welcome" screen
- On the "Specify Volume Size" screen allow all of the automatically allocated space
- Select "Next
Step 3 Creating a VHD iSCSI Target for VRM:
- From the "Assign Drive Letter or Path" screen make a note of the drive letter assigned to the new drive
- In this example the new drive is assigned "F"
- Select "Next"
- From the "Format Partition" screen insure the following settings are correct:
- File System= NTFS
- Allocation unit size= Default
- Volume Label = New Volume
- "Perform a quick format" is checked
- Select "Next"
- After selecting next you will be presented with a summary page, select "Finish"
- Once finished you should see the drive as a "Healthy (Primary Partition)" as seen below
Select the "Microsoft iSCSI Software Target" menu located just above "Disk Management"
- Select the "iSCSI Targets" sub menu
- Select the "TGO" submenu
Once the "TGO" submenu is highlighted the right menu pane should be populated with existing Virtual Hard Disks.
- Note the existing LUN numbers
- Right click on either the "TGO" icon or in the right menu pane and select the "Create Virtual Disk for iSCSI Target" menu option
NOTE: If this is a replacement procedure there may be a residual listing for the VHD that existed on the previous hardware. The entry can be deleted.
- The "Create Virtual Disk Wizard" should open
- Select the "Next" button on the "Welcome" screen
- From the "File" screen enter the path to the new VHD using the assigned drive letter of your newly installed drive
- F:\Name.VHD
- The name of the VHD you are creating must have the file extension *.VHD
- Select the "Next" tab
- The next screen is the "Size" menu. Here you will see the total available size of the new drive.
- The menu requires a size value be entered for the new VHD in MB
- If the total size of the new drive is presented in GB, multiply the 'free space" size by 1024
- If the total size of the new drive is presented in TB, multiply the 'free space" by 1024 twice
- Enter the correct number as it pertains to the new hardware and select the "Next" tab
- After selecting next enter the description of the new VHD
- Select the "Next" tab
- After selecting the next tab you will see the summary screen, select the "Finish" tab
- After the wizard closes you should see the newly created VHD
- Close the "Server Manager"
Step 4 Adding the VHD as a VRM Target and Formatting:
From the Desktop of the appliance open the BVMS Configuration Client
- You will be prompted to log into Configuration Client
- User Name: Admin
- No Password
- The default loop back connection address of 127.0.0.1 should be present in the connection drop down menu.
- Select "OK"
- From the Device Tree select the "VRM Devices" menu
- Select the systems "VRM"
- Select the configured "Pool"
- Select the systems iSCSI
- Select the iSCSI's target icon
- Once the target's icon is highlighted you should see the new VHD as unformatted
- Check the "Format" check box
- Select the "Format LUN" tab
- You will be asked if "you really want to format the selected LUN", select "OK"
- After the selecting OK the formatting process will start
- Once complete the new drive will appear as formatted
- Close Configuration Client
- Log off of the appliance, this should place you back in the KIOSK interface
